Medical Collections

Medical collection removal

Medical debt has its own rules, and the bureaus routinely break them. Paid medical collections should not appear at all, and there is a minimum balance and a waiting period before one can be reported.

Why these come off

Medical billing is the messiest billing in America. Insurance pays late or partially, providers bill the patient in the meantime, the balance goes to collections while the claim is still being processed, and nobody updates the report when it finally settles.

On top of that, the bureaus have their own rules for medical debt — a waiting period before it can be reported, a minimum balance, and removal once it is paid. Those rules are broken constantly, and every breach is a deletion.

A paid medical collection still reporting
A balance below the reporting threshold
Debt reported before the waiting period ended
A bill insurance should have covered
A duplicate from provider and collector
A bill for someone else in the family
A balance that does not match the explanation of benefits

How the process runs

1. Free credit review

We pull and read your three-bureau report with you and tell you honestly what looks challengeable and what does not.

2. We build the challenge file

Every item that is inaccurate, incomplete, unverifiable or outdated gets documented and disputed with the bureaus and the furnisher.

3. The bureaus respond

They have 30 days to verify an item. Anything they cannot verify has to come off. We track every response.

4. We escalate and repeat

Items that come back verified get a second round with stronger documentation. This is a process, not a single letter.

Common questions

Should paid medical collections be on my report?

No. Under the current bureau rules, a medical collection that has been paid should be removed entirely. If yours is still showing, that is a straightforward challenge.

Is there a minimum balance for medical debt?

Yes. Medical collections below a set threshold should not appear on consumer credit reports at all.

What if insurance was supposed to pay it?

Then the provider billed you in error. We challenge the entry and document the insurance responsibility.

Does medical debt hurt less than other debt?

Newer scoring models weight it less, but plenty of lenders still use older models where it hurts the same. Get it off.

What is the waiting period?

There is a required delay after a medical bill goes unpaid before it can be reported, to let insurance resolve. Debt reported early is reported improperly.
